Established in 1956, The Bourns Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit public benefit corporation with a primary focus on the advancement of S.T.E.M. education, fostering scientific and technological research, and enabling related programs.

The Bourns Foundation provides ongoing support to a number of organizations and programs as determined by its Board of Directors. Funding requests may be submitted and will be considered under the following conditions:

  • Applicants must be tax exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and applicable state law.
  • Applicants must submit a funding request letter and information packet detailing the mission of their organization, the nature of the grant request, the amount being requested and how the funds will be used, as well as the strategic link between the grant request and The Bourns Foundation.
New funding requests are reviewed by the Board of Directors on a quarterly basis, and applications approved for funding will receive written notification of the funding decision shortly thereafter.

It is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporations Law for charitable purposes and is organized exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes, all within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.
