The Bourns–Newark franchise relationship spans more than five decades across the Americas distribution channel.
LAS VEGAS, Nevada, May 26, 2026 - Bourns has recognized Newark Electronics for 55 years as a franchised Bourns distributor across the Americas. The milestone was acknowledged during EDS 2026 at Resorts World Las Vegas as part of Bourns’ annual Americas channel recognition program, which has honored outstanding distributor and representative relationships since 2014.
Newark was acquired by Premier Farnell in 1996 — itself a Bourns distributor in the UK — and by Avnet in 2016; through both ownership changes, the franchise relationship with Bourns remained active. Newark serves engineers and procurement professionals across the Americas through a catalog spanning design, maintenance, and repair, covering more than 2,000 authorized brands. Bourns components in power, protection, and sensing remain active in Newark’s Americas inventory today.
“Fifty-five years is a long time in this business. Newark went through two ownership changes during that span, and the franchise remained intact through both. That says something about the people on both sides who kept it working.”
— Jerry Durand, Vice President of Sales – Americas, Bourns
Milestone Highlights
- Franchise tenure — 55 consecutive years as a franchised Bourns distributor, beginning in 1971.
- Ownership continuity — the franchise relationship remained active through Newark’s acquisition by Premier Farnell in 1996 and by Avnet in 2016.
- Distribution model — serves engineers and procurement professionals across the Americas from design through maintenance and repair.
- Bourns product lines — power, protection, and sensing components, active across Newark’s Americas inventory.
“Fifty-five years with any supplier comes down to the working relationships at the branch and field level, not just at the top. Through two ownership changes, our teams continued to carry Bourns product lines and support Bourns customers across the Americas. Both organizations worked to maintain that continuity, and we’re proud it has held.”
— Andy Weatherill, VP Global Product and Asset, Farnell
