In this role, you will focus on an assigned territory of Los Angeles and Orange County for the sale of Bourns products. Taking ownership of the overall business development within the assigned territory to include managing local Manufacturer's Representative and Distributors to: develop existing component sales business and executive level client relationships; uncover new opportunities; develop new solutions; overall increase sales leading to profit growth. This person drives and owns short and long-term sales plans for the Region. This position reports directly to the Southwest Sales Manager. This role is based in Riverside, CA.

The successful candidate will own and possess the drive to:

  • Grow Bourns sales for the assigned region to meet and exceed revenue quota. Assist customers in adopting Bourns products into their designs. Drives Design In and Design Wins at customers.
  • Manages and works with local Manufacturers' Representative and Distributors to drive sales discovery and Demand Creation
  • Coordinates Bourns contacts at the customers; primary interface and coordinator for all Bourns functions i.e. Field Application Engineer (FAE), Market Director (MD) and Product Line Manager (PLM) with Application Engineers (AE).
  • Proactively follows up on projects and ensures CRM project status is up to date.
  • Makes an optimum number of face to face sales calls to engineering, procurement and other related departments for the purpose of product presentations, pursuing information and obtaining sales orders. Acquires comprehensive knowledge of all customer personnel and products.
  • Develop strategic sales and account plans based on industry trends and customer analysis. Ensure territory plans are aligned and updated quarterly. Provide monthly written report to Sales Manager on Sales Achievement, customer project status, etc
  • Own local customer annual RFQ and contract negotiation in cooperation with Marketing Directors/VP, Product Line Managers (PLMs) and local Customer Service (CS) team for pricing. Maximize the award allocation to gain max actual shipments.
  • Optimize ongoing logistics and supply chain topics in cooperation with PLMs, Customer Service and logistic functions.
  • Supports the Product Lines and different quality functions in quality resolution mainly as communicator and sometimes a proactive driver or even owner.
  • Plan and demonstrate a detailed understanding of both the customers' sector and business drivers/challenges. Understand solutions selling/challenger sales methodology and tools and apply these regularly.
  • Own the set up and negotiation of an NDA or customer contract in cooperation with the contracts team or Legal and the Business Unit.
  • Complies with all company policies, instructions, and directives for the fulfilment of the company objectives and for maximum profitable sales.
  • Attends and participates in sales meetings, training programs, conventions, sales contests, and trade shows as directed.
  • Presents a professional demeanor and image to the customer and within Bourns.
  • Turns in online expense reports on time and uses funds properly.
  • Performs other related duties as required. Own and achieve the assigned local or regional design, and production/purchasing sites to achieve/maximize revenue quota.

In this role, you will function as the primary point of contact for providing technical information, part specific knowledge, and service to customers, sales representatives, distributors, and Bourns sales personnel. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reviews customer requirements and drawings or specifications to determine the appropriate standard product or to develop a special product that will meet the required performance characteristics of the customer. Interfaces with customer and internal engineering and manufacturing.
  • Analyzes and reviews all special requests and presents new product additions or improvements to PLM.

  • Assists with and/or initiates Quality Corrective Action Requests (CARs) from customers and tracks all CARs to a timely conclusion. Analyzes problems and issues and provides recommendations for solutions. Coordinates results and provides to customer, or sales representative, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for maintaining and publishing all competitive updates, cross-references, and technical evaluations and other sales tools. Coordinates with Marcom Department for production and release of sales tools.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of documentation as it pertains to Customer Drawing Records (CDR’s), customer part numbers, SAP input and other customer related issues.
  • Assists Product Line Management in coordinating forecasts, product life cycle, and planning.
Qualifications Needed:

In this role, you will plan, coordinate, conduct, and supervise assignments relating to the development of new product concepts and processes, requiring new or unique application requirements, manufacturing technology or design approaches compared to established existing product lines; provides engineering support to existing products; redesigns current products to improve profitability, performance, quality, reliability and technical enhancements; designs/develops complex new products and processes; assumes total responsibility for assigned projects, including budget responsibility.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs complex and novel work assignments pertaining to products, processes and development and production qualification of new products which expand Bourns market and sustain growth/profitability.
  • Utilizes project management tools to prepare product from initial concept through production implementation including time schedule, cost and performance.
  • Manages engineering activities in the design, process evaluation, selection, qualification and optimization to meet or exceed project objectives.
  • Applies knowledge and experience of 3D CAD, SPC, DOE, DFM, FMEA, Six-Sigma process in all products and processes to achieve world class product status.
  • Works directly with and manages customer relationships, suppliers, manufacturing facilities ensuring on time project completion with six-sigma process, performance and achieving cost target.
  • Reviews and approves design for product parts and assemblies for all new, and revised product designs. All such designs must be initially reviewed prior to detailing, and then must be final approved before tooling and part manufacturing can begin.
  • Works closely with the manufacturing plants and/or vendors to coordinate new, and revised piece parts designs so that they are compatible with current and near future manufacturing tooling and process capabilities. Periodic plant visits will be required.
  • Provides sustaining design engineering support for existing products.
  • Redesigns existing products for improved profitability, performance, quality and reliability.
  • Searches out and introduces new materials and technologies for existing or new products.
  • Maintains liaison with Engineering, Research, Equipment, Quality Assurance and Manufacturing plants to keep abreast of latest equipment, procedures, and trends.
  • Supervises designers, draftsmans, and technicians engaged in the preparation of designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports as required.
  • Advises design group of ideas and designs which have been developed and have proven exceptionally meritorious and could be used to advantage, or have failed and should be avoided, using geed engineering and business judgment.
  • Prepares project estimates and work schedules; determines method of procedure and design; reviews progress of project and evaluates results.
  • Assures proper preparation and distribution of all support engineering documents and control and monitoring of projects throughout all phases of development, pilot production and subsequent production.
  • Reviews and evaluates the execution of designs in a phase of specialization for various projects and provides sketches and alternate proposals to design groups to improve designs.
  • Estimates costs and manpower needs, and schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
  • Keeps currently informed on trends and developments in the electronic components industry through trade publications, shows, and seminars.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications Needed:
  • Normally graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with an Engineering Degree (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred), or equivalent education, training or experience.
  • Proficient in Creo CAD software, Drafting, and GD&T. Fifteen (15) years of engineering experience including demonstrated capability to design, develop, and release to manufacturing creative product design of a major scope and a high degree of technical complexity.
  • Proficient in FEA software and analysis setup and interpretation such as PTC Creo Simulate, SOLIDWORKS Simulation Packages, ANSYS simulation software or other analysis software.

The Bourns Automotive Division has played a leading role in the design, development and manufacture of potentiometric sensors since 1949. At our engineering centers in Riverside/California, Taufkirchen/Germany, and Auburn Hills/Michigan we develop and design an extensive range of customized automotive position, speed and torque sensors. This position will be responsible for all sales and customer support activities for all Bourns products for assigned customers' automotive markets. Must be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, sales team, program management and the plants. In this position you will:

  • Achieve the agreed upon sales objectives for the assigned products in the assigned markets.
  • Demonstrate proven sales prospecting, relationship building, and related sales activities with specific focus on the following:
    • New product sales growth at both new & existing customers
    • Maximize profit margins associated with existing products & customer relationships
  • Develop Annual Business Plan projections for the assigned accounts. Must be able to think on both strategic and tactical levels.
  • Provide customer support and account maintenance, for the assigned customers in assigned automotive markets, to achieve customer loyalty.
  • Coordinate and communicate project requirements to the appropriate people within Bourns (Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing) and provide feedback to the customer as required.
  • Keep informed of internal engineering and manufacturing activities, including design, drawing, and program reviews and "project requirements."
  • Ensure customer satisfaction pertaining to Bourns organizational disposition of customer engineering activities, including design, drawing, and program reviews, testing, root cause analysis, field test failures, plant issues, and cost reduction initiatives. However, the above activities are the ultimate responsibility of each Bourns individual quality, design, manufacturing disciplines. The main focus of this position is sales growth.
  • Coordinate customer satisfaction with timely quotations and prototype deliveries for customer programs.
  • Obtain and communicate market information on current or potential products or future programs with Bourns management.
  • Maintain compliance to current ISO/IATF standards and customer specific requirements as applicable
  • Support, promote, and perform in a manner consistent with high performance teams, continuous improvement goals, and values of Bourns Automotive Division.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years relevant work experience in the automotive market, preferably in sensors and electronics technology. Experience in automotive sales with a proven history in successful sales growth and prospecting.
  • Must have a team selling approach to the job. Must be familiar with Strategic Selling concept and able to put it into action.
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in use of networking/prospecting programs like: LinkedIn, Spoke, Jigsaw, data.com.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point is a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, sales team, program management and the plants.
  • Excellent team building skills and knows how to motivate others throughout the organization. Needs to take hard measures to ensure maximum results for the Bourns Automotive Division and Bourns overall.
  • Possess out of the box thinking attitude.
  • Flexibility and high energy level required
  • Must possess and maintain a Valid Driver.s License.
