RIVERSIDE, Calif., November 7, 2019 - Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today is marking its 50 years of business in Germany as a result of positioning the company for continued growth with technologies that meet emerging application requirements, all backed by a culture of superior customer support. Bourns' European operations started with one office in Switzerland in 1962 to meet the increasing demand for its Trimpot® trimming potentiometer products. The need for additional support in Germany was apparent, so an office was established in Stuttgart.
Today, the company employs more than 1,000 people in the region at nine sales and marketing offices, two manufacturing facilities and three R&D Centers. Bourns' product portfolio has significantly expanded as well – offering one of the industry's broadest lines of circuit protection, motion control and circuit conditioning components. Recent product additions include the company's MEMS-based sensors, sulfur-resistant resistors, GMOV™ hybrid overvoltage protectors as well as expanding Bourns' custom magnetics capabilities.
A major contributor to Bourns' expansion in Europe is its highly-regarded automotive sensor solutions that are supported by an expanded manufacturing plant in Hungary. Bourns has a long history of designing and manufacturing an extensive range of customized automotive position, speed and torque sensors. Bourns Sensors GmbH plays a key role in the continuing success of the company's automotive sensors business through its engineering center in Munich, Germany, as does Bourns Kft. with its engineering center in Veszprém, Hungary.
Through numerous acquisitions, Bourns' presence in Europe has grown substantially. Bourns' latest acquisition of Slovenia-based KEKO-Varicon further strengthens its overcurrent and overvoltage protection portfolio giving customers a rich selection of solutions for next-generation designs.
"It is gratifying to see the long-term success of our European business, and in particular how the Bourns Automotive Division has grown to be one of the top suppliers of customized sensors for both the consumer and commercial vehicle markets. I know it would make my parents proud to see their foundation of technology, quality and service continue to grow and prosper worldwide," said Gordon Bourns, CEO of Bourns, Inc. "Fifty years is a considerable achievement for any company, especially in the dynamic components industry. Focusing on the future, Bourns remains committed to maintaining close relationships with our customers to continually meet their application requirements for advanced technologies and products. I believe our European operations teams are world-class with the skills to help solve any technical challenge no matter how complex."
