RIVERSIDE, Calif, January 25, 2008
– Bourns, Inc. is pleased to announce today that it completed its purchase of substantially all of the assets of the Protection Products business of Emerson Network Power Energy Systems, North America .
Emerson Network Power’s Protection Products business, headquartered in Warrenville, Illinois with manufacturing operations in Mexico City, Mexico, designs and manufactures surge protection modules for telecommunications applications. The products, which include 5-pin protectors, station protectors and screw-in arrestors, are sold principally to Telco’s for use in Central Offices and at customer premises. Certain of the products are also purchased by manufacturers as components in higher level integrated products.
According to Dr. Erik Meijer, Vice President of Circuit Protection for Bourns, this asset purchase extends Bourns current offering of protection products and protection technology and further strengthens Bourns’ position as a leading supplier for Central Office and Outside Plant protection. Bourns will consolidate the Protection Products operation within Bourns’ existing design and marketing operation in Riverside, California and manufacturing facility in Costa Rica. Dr. Meijer noted that Bourns has over 30 years of experience in this market and had previously acquired Joslyn Electronics’ communication protection products business as well as Texas Instruments’ solid state Telecom protection business. "Bourns is committed to supplying the best and most reliable electronic solutions to satisfy the diverse needs of our customers. We are uniquely positioned in this market with our internal component production of gas discharge tubes, solid state thyristors and resettable PTC thermistors, which together form the very heart of modern telecom protection" said Dr. Meijer.
