New general duty SPDs with pluggable/replaceable modules are designed to meet high-risk electrical service entrance and branch panel protection requirements
RIVERSIDE, Calif., July 5, 2023 - Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components for power, protection, and sensing solutions, today introduced a high-performance DC Surge Protective Device (SPD) Series. The Bourns® Model 1420A Series SPDs are a new family of DIN Rail general duty SPDs with pluggable/replaceable modules offering surge rates up to 50 kA in different configurations. Bourns specifically designed its Model 1420A Series SPDs to meet high-risk electrical service entrance and branch panel protection requirements of high power, sensitive energy generation and distribution terminals such as EV fast chargers, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and photovoltaic energy generation systems.
Sustained abnormal overvoltage high-energy surges can cause SPDs and/or MOVs to go into a thermal runaway condition that many times leads to device overheating and create a fire hazard. For this reason, Bourns' latest SPD products feature an Advanced Thermal Disconnector (TD+) that has a self-extinguishing mechanism that helps increase device safety during catastrophic end-of-life events. These new SPDs come with an additional window fault indicator and remote auxiliary output signal, which provides the ability to monitor the status of the device.
The Bourns® Model 1420A SPD Series is available now and is RoHS* compliant. This series is a UL recognized Type 4, Type 2 Location SPD and complies with IEC 61643-31 standards.
