RIVERSIDE, Calif., October 22, 2015 - Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced the expansion of the company's AC surge protective device (SPD) line with two new heavy duty models that meet the latest Underwriters Laboratories' (UL) 1449 safety and performance standard. Designated Bourns® Model 1251 and Model 1252, the two series are high-performance hybrid SPDs. Model 1251 is a Type 1 SPD designed to be installed on the line side of the main service disconnect, and Model 1252 is a Type 2 SPD engineered for the load side of the main service disconnect. Offering reliable transient protection for power distribution systems, both series support either 120/208 Three-Phase Wye or Single Phase 120/240 VAC circuits with the Model 1252 also featuring noise mitigation filtering capabilities.
The Bourns® Hybrid SPD (H-SPD) designs combine Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) and Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) technologies to deliver fast-acting and low leakage performance over the life of the SPD. Rated at 50 kA on a single 8/20 µs surge. Along with other ruggedized features, Bourns' latest H-SPDs are offered in NEMA 4X enclosures making them robust solutions for both indoor and outdoor installation. Wiring options include a 20 inch, 12 gauge wiring stub that exits either the right side or rear of the protector. In the unlikely event of a system or device failure, both series offer thermal disconnect safety features as well as visual LED and audio alarm indicators.
